
Guwahati, May 13: In a grand ceremony attended by top national leaders and dignitaries, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Assam at the Khanapara Veterinary College Playground in Guwahati on Tuesday. The oath-taking programme witnessed the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP National President J.P. Nadda, and several senior political leaders from across the country.
Among the prominent leaders present were Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. Their presence at the ceremony drew considerable public and political attention, highlighting the national importance of the event. Several Chief Ministers and political leaders from Northeastern states also attended the programme.
The Governor of Assam administered the oath of office and secrecy to Dr. Sarma and members of the new Council of Ministers before a packed gathering comprising ministers, MPs, MLAs, senior government officials, diplomats, religious leaders, and thousands of party supporters.
The ceremony venue was adorned with traditional Assamese decorations and elaborate floral arrangements, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the state. Enthusiastic supporters from different districts gathered in large numbers, creating a festive atmosphere with slogans, traditional music, and cultural performances.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and expressed confidence in Assam’s continued progress under his leadership. Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the state government’s efforts in ensuring peace, stability, and rapid development in the Northeast region.
Addressing the gathering after taking oath, Dr. Sarma thanked the people of Assam for their trust and support. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment towards development, infrastructure expansion, employment generation, education, healthcare, and welfare initiatives for all sections of society.
Tight security arrangements were put in place across Guwahati for the high-profile event, with police and paramilitary personnel deployed in and around the venue. Traffic restrictions were also imposed in several parts of the city to facilitate smooth movement of dignitaries and attendees.
The oath-taking ceremony marks the beginning of a new administrative term in Assam, with high public expectations regarding governance reforms, economic growth, and accelerated development across the state.
