Triggered by un-interrupted rains since past couple of days, landslides buried two persons under mud at the Shillong Police Reserve on Thursday . The incident happened when the the part-time workers of the Police department had gone there to clear the mudslide which occurred early morning at around 5.00am on Thursday. While clearing the debris another landslide occurred at about 11.30 am which buried the two workers under the rubble. Their bodies have been retrieved and identified as Sohibuton Marak. The rescue team has evacuated nine families from that area to safer places.
Many rivers in the state are flowing above the danger level mark in the state following incessant rains in the last couple of days and have claimed eight lives during the month. A wodden bridge over Daldam River was washed away by flood waters on the Tura-Baghmara connecting road.
