GUWAHATI, May 22:Guwahati received a major infrastructure boost today with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurating the Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Flyover at Lalganesh this evening . Built at a cost of ₹376 crore, the flyover is expected to reduce traffic congestion in one of the city’s busiest stretches and improve connectivity between different parts of Guwahati.

The project was completed in 26 months, ahead of its scheduled deadline. Officials said the new corridor would help commuters travelling towards hospitals, commercial hubs and residential areas in the western and southern parts of the city.
With the opening of the new structure, Guwahati now has 31 flyovers as the state government continues to focus on road infrastructure and traffic management projects across the city.
Residents of Lalganesh and adjoining localities welcomed the development, hoping it would provide relief from daily traffic snarls during peak hours. Urban experts, however, stressed that long-term solutions would also require better public transport and improved traffic planning.
