Imphal : Lieutenant General Sukhdeep Sangwan, Director General of Assam Rifles visited the state today to review the prevailing security, law and order situation.

The Director General along with the Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), Major General Alok Naresh visited the far flung field formations and interacted with troops deployed in the forward locations of the state, said a statement of the paramilitary force.

During the visit, the General was briefed in detail by the Commander 10 Sector Assam Rifles, Commandant Somsai Battalion and Commandant Chassad Battalion on ground about the latest prevailing security situation and operational preparedness, it said.

He was also briefed about the efforts being undertaken for Force preservation and COVID-19 preparedness of Assam Rifles in Manipur, continued the statement.

The Director General expressed his satisfaction on the level of operational preparedness as well as the assistance being provided by the troops of Assam Rifles and Army during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“He complimented the troops for carrying out a commendable job with regards of efficiently managing the security situation in the state facing multiple challenges in difficult & inhospitable conditions and commended them for carrying out people friendly operations,” said the statement.

On the other hand, the paramilitary force today provided humanitarian assistance to accident victim.

The statement said that a bike moving from Kamjong to Imphal met with an accident near Singcha village (04 km from Gamnoum). The accident happened when the bike rider lost control of the bike.

The individual was identified as Havildar Basanta Singh (45) of the 6th Manipur Rifles Battalion, a resident of Thoubal and was seriously injured, added the statement.

He was immediately brought by the locals present there to the Gamnoum Post of Shangshak Battalion of Assam Rifles where he was provided emergency first aid, while ensuring the COVID precautions and protocols.

The locals appreciated the speedy response of Assam Rifles and also applauded the efforts in maintaining security in the difficult and challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic.
