Imphal, Sept 20, 2020: Two persons died of Covid-19 at the state-run
JNIMS hospital in Imphal in the last 24 hours, climbing the total
death toll in the state to 57.

Hailing from Imphal East district, the two, all males, had co-morbid
health conditions, said a state health department statement today.

The deceased include a 53-year-old who died today morning around 9,
while the other victim, aged 65, passed away last night, sources in
the hospital said.

Meanwhile 170 persons, including 168 civilians and 2 Central Armed
Police Force (CAPF) personnel, tested positive for the virus at
different laboratories since last night, increasing the total cases to
8894.

With 6767 patients having been discharged from different Covid care
facilities after recovering from the disease, 44 of them since last
night, the cumulative number of active cases stand at 2020, while the
recovery rate is 76.08 percent, continued the statement.

The newly infected civilians are residents of Imphal West, Tamenglong,
Imphal East, Thoubal, Kamjong, Churachandpur, Bishnupur and Kangpokpi
districts, said the statement signed by the department’s additional
director and spokesperson, Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang.

Of them , 163 have no significant travel history , while the rest five
are retrunees from other states.

They are being shifted to Covid care centres for treatment and all
necessary medical precautionary measures like contact tracing and
containment have been taken up to combat the virus spread, added the
statement.

In the meantime, the primary health centre of Moreh has been shut down
as a precautionary measure to combat Covid-19 pandemic after a woman
of the border town who came for treatment at the centre, tested
positive for the virus, a source said.

Two daughters of the woman also tested positive, it said, adding that
the mother, who also suffers from diabetics and heart ailment, was
referred to  a hospital in Imphal for treatment, while the two
children have been shifted to the Covid care centre at Moreh hospital,
it added.

Following the development, Deputy Commissioner ( Tengnoupal) has
declared Moreh Ward No 5, where the three reside,  as containment zone
to fight the spread of novel coronavirus.
