Imphal, Sept 15,2020: Assam Rifles (AR) troops recovered 1.07 Kg of brown sugar from an individual at the Khudengthabi area near the border town of Moreh in Tengnoupal district yesterday.
The paramilitary force , based on sources, stopped a car coming from Moreh side towards Imphal and carried out checking of the vehicle thoroughly before recovering the drugs from it, said an AR statement.
Following the seizure, the soldiers apprehended the car’s driver identified as Paukhanmang Guite (34) of Churachandpur district’s Kamkhang village.
The individual and the seized drugs have been handed over to Moreh police station for taking up necessary legal action, continued the statement.
Meanwhile, a 21-year-old Rohingya woman, who had been languishing in Tripura jail for six months, was handed over to the Myanmarese authorities on September 13 through the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Moreh.
Tripura police arrested her in September 2017 for entering Tripura from Bangladesh without possessing any valid documents.
As the woman, who hails from the Rakhine state in Myanmar, had completed her prison term at a protective home in Tripura, she was brought by a team of Tripura police and reached Moreh on September 13, the sources added.
After completing the official procedures at the ICP, the woman was handed by the senior immigration officer of India over to the immigration officer of Tamu at the nearby Indo-Myanmar Friendship Bridge.
