Imphal: Meghalaya power minister James K Sangma, who is the elder brother of NPP national president Conrad Sangma, tested positive for Covid-19 after arriving at Imphal airport on Saturday, party sources said.

The two brothers arrived at the Imphal airport from Delhi to discuss about fielding the party’s candidates for the upcoming by-elections to the 13 vacant assembly seats in Manipur.

Soon after their arrival, they underwent Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) on the airport premises and the results came out positive for James and negative for Conrad. James again underwent a second test where he tested positive again. Testing positive for the second time, James flew back to Shillong in a chartered flight, they added.

On arrival at Imphal airport, Four NPP MLAs of Manipur, including deputy chief minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh, the party’s state unit interim president N Kayisii, LJayantakumar Singh and Letpao Haokip received the two at the airport. Later, Conrad Stayed at Hotel Grande in Imphal where he held a meeting with Manipur unit party leaders to discuss the ensuing by-polls.
