A 5.4-magnitude earthquake rocked Assam and Meghalaya on Monday, sending tremors across the area and even reaching parts of Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.

The quake, occurring at 8:19 pm, had its impact strongly felt in Meghalaya and the northern section of Bangladesh, near the international border. The National Center for Seismology pinpointed the quake’s epicenter at a location around 49 kilometers southeast of Cherrapunjee in Meghalaya, with the depth of the earthquake measured at 16 kilometers.

Authorities from the Regional Seismological Centre confirmed the epicenter’s proximity to Meghalaya’s West Jaintia Hills district, specifically the Dawki area. The tremor’s effects reverberated across all districts of Meghalaya and extended into parts of Assam and West Bengal.

As of now, no reports have emerged regarding casualties or property damage stemming from the earthquake, according to an official from the local disaster management authority.
