GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 22nd convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) , Guwahati through video-conferencing on Tuesday, 22nd September 2020.

For the first time in the history of northeast India, a digital medal distribution ceremony as an alternative to a physical one was organised in order to maintain social distancing in view of covid-19 pandemic. Digital Avatars of students received their diploma certificates from the Avatar of the institute director.

For the photograph session, space was created by the institute with choices of completely different backgrounds of the campus in order facilitating the students to choose a suitable background of their choice for the photograph. This software enabled the students to have a virtual tour of the campus, navigate through different buildings and share memories. Around 500 students interacted with each other virtually
