In a testament to Assam’s progress,Guwahati is gearing up to host a historic sports event that promises to reshape the nation’s sporting landscape. This event is poised to unveil the finest elements of ‘Shining Assam.’
The debut Guwahati Marathon is a collaborative effort between Coal India Ltd, the Government of Assam, and the Indian Army, scheduled for Sunday, December 3rd, 2023.
During a meeting, Assam’s Minister for Power, Sports, and Youth Welfare, Nandita Garlosa, convened with Lieutenant General Manish Erry, GOC Gajraj Corps, and numerous senior officials from relevant departments to discuss this significant sporting occasion.
With Coal India Limited as the title sponsor and the Indian Army as the affirming partner, the marathon will feature three races—Half Marathon (21.0975 Km), 10 Km, and 5 Km runs, catering to participants of all levels, from beginners to seasoned athletes.
Online registrations for the event are expected to open around September 20th, and a dedicated website is under development. The formal announcement of the event is forthcoming, with details such as routes, prize money, and the race logo to be revealed.
This marathon marks a significant leap in Guwahati’s sports scene, aiming to establish the city on both national and international marathon calendars. It is a celebration of peace and prosperity in the state, and it promises to leave a lasting impact on India’s sporting map.
