Tragedy struck in Assam’s Nagaon district as a man fell victim to a fatal beating by villagers under suspicion of theft. The incident unfolded on Sunday in Bamungaon, located within the jurisdiction of Lanka police station in Hojai.

Senior officials reported that the distressing event transpired during the early hours of the morning. “We were notified that a person had been subjected to severe beatings by villagers who suspected him of theft. By the time the police arrived at the scene, the victim had already succumbed to his injuries. The body has been transported to Nagaon Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination,” stated a senior official.

The deceased was identified as Hibzur Rahman, a resident of the Hojai sub-divisional area.

As authorities swung into action, six individuals have been apprehended in connection with the incident. The investigation is ongoing, with the aim of identifying and apprehending additional individuals involved in the tragic incident.
