Nagaon, May 26: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today visited the Maha Mrityunjay temple in Nagaon district and held a discussion with DC, SP and officials of forest and PWD department at the office premises of the temple in presence of MLA and Political Secretary to CM Jayanta Malla Baruah, Nagaon MLA Rupak Sarma and Barhampur MLA Jitu Goswami with a view to transform the temple into a major tourist attraction of the
district.
The Chief Minister directed the Social Forestry Department to take up plantation programme including horticultural plants in the temple campus with proper landscaping. He also asked the PWD department to expeditiously execute the scheme for two laning of the road leading to the temple from the national highway. Chief Minister Sarma also directed the district administration to develop a proper traffic system leading to the temple alongwith adequate parking facilities.

Further reviewing the incident of mysterious death of several elephants at
Bamunipahar in Nagaon district recently, the Chief Minister asked the forest department to carry out an extensive plantation drive in the hill. He also instructed to take up self-sustaining initiatives and self-employment generation programmes involving the local community to make them an important stakeholder of wildlife protection.
