Ritul Saikia, an employee of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), who was abducted by banned United Liberation Front of Asom Independent (ULFA-I) was released from Assam’s Sivasagar district last month.

The abducted ONGC employee was released by ULFA-I at around 7.00am, Saturday morning in Longwa village, Mon district near Nagaland-Myanmar border. Security forces have taken him into their custody.

“An Indian army team escorted the ONGC employee on his way to Mon, and security forces will jointly interrogate him,” said a top Indian Army personnel based in Dimapur.

Earlier on May 20, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma formally appealed ULFA and its C-in-C Paresh Baruah to release the abducted ONGC employee.

After Saikia’s release, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted: “Heartily welcome release of Ritul Saikia, ONGC employee abducted by ULFA, early today! Grateful to Honble UHM @AmitShah for constant guidance. Hope an era of peace & development is firmly established in state with cooperation of one and all. Pray to Almighty for His Blessings.”
