GUWAHATI: As per the report prepared by the Health and Family Welfare Statistics in India for the year 2019-20, Assam men and women have been ranked highest in terms of alcohol consumption in India.

Against the national average of 1.2% , the women from Assam in the age category of 15 to 49 topped the list of alcohol consumers in the category at 26.3%. In the same age group, Men from Assam ranks much lower at number 20 (35.6%). However in the age group 15 to 54 years Men from Assam topped the chart with 59.4 % against national average of 29.5%.

Nagaland, Goa, Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh are the states with the lowest percentage of women who consume alcohol at 0.1%

When it comes to Tobacco consumption, West Bengal tops the list with 59.2% women & 80.4% consumers in the age group 15 to 49
