Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday laid the foundation stone of a new flyover connecting Maligaon with Kamakhya Gate and Pandu in the city. PWD minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was also present during the occasion.

​The proposed four-lane flyover will start from Maligaon and end by crossing the Kamakhya Temple gate on the Assam Trunk (AT) Road with an extended arm to the road leading to Pandu Ghat.

Assam PWD (Roads) will construct this 2992m (Approx 3 Km.) long flyover at an estimated cost of Rs 420.75 crores under the ‘State-Owned Priority Development (General) Scheme’. The flyover is targeted to be completed within two years.

The chief minister said that the rapid infrastructure development in Guwahati is part of the state government’s vision to make the city the gateway to South-East Asia. Speaking on the occasion, PWD Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the new flyover at Maligaon would greatly reduce the traffic congestion and facilitate smooth movement of vehicles and people in the busy area like Maligaon.
