The flood situation in Assam took a turn for the worse on Sunday, impacting over 75,000 individuals, according to an official bulletin.
A report from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) indicated that the floods have tragically claimed a life in the Sivasagar district. This brings the total death toll from this year’s deluge to 12, as confirmed by an official.
State officials reported that at least four major rivers have surged above their danger levels, exacerbating the situation. The Brahmaputra River has breached the red mark in Dhubri and Nematighat, while the Disang River is flowing perilously high in Nanglamuraghat and Dikhou in Sivasagar.
Currently, eight districts are grappling with the effects of the floods, directly impacting 75,209 residents. Dhemaji district has borne the brunt of the disaster, with 46,754 individuals facing the consequences, followed by Sivasagar with 22,650 affected residents.
As a response to the crisis, a total of 1,515 affected individuals have sought refuge in nine relief camps. In addition, officials have set up 52 relief distribution centers to provide essential assistance to those in need.
