The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati) is all set to hold its convocation online on 22nd September 2020.

PM Modi will be the chief guest at the event and will address the students graduating from the institute. Union Minister of Education Ramesh Pokhriyal , Minister of State for Education Sanjay Dhotre will also address the ceremony online. CM Sarbananda Sonowal will be attending the ceremony as a special guest.

Students will be present in the virtual convocation as virtual avatars on the occasion rather than being present physically.


The avatars of the award recipients will be receiving medals in the virtual reality-based award distribution ceremony. The medals will be presented by the Avatar of IITG Director.

The institute has also created a photo-booth, with an option of different backgrounds, for students to take pictures at some selected locations on the campus. IIT Guwahati’s faculty and students have developed a telepresence module for a virtual visit to the Institute
