Acclaimed filmmaker Shankar Borua’s latest cinematic creation, BLUE OCEAN (Hindi/Punjabi/English, 133 mins., 2025), marks his inaugural foray into the vibrant world of Hindi cinema. Beginning 17 November 2025, the film will embark on an extensive tour across several esteemed universities in North India—including Punjabi University, Patiala; Panjab University, Chandigarh; DIT University, Dehradun; DAV University, Jalandhar; and many more—where it will be showcased through a series of special screenings.

Borua and his producing partner Shellee (the well-known Bollywood lyricist who also serves as the lyricist-composer for BLUE OCEAN) will personally participate in these university screenings. They will engage in insightful discussions with audiences, interact with students through lively Q&A sessions, and foster meaningful dialogue with aspiring filmmakers as well as seasoned industry professionals.

Dr. Shankar Borua is an accomplished scholar-practitioner, filmmaker, entrepreneur, and startup mentor, with over twenty years of diverse experience across academia, the creative arts, and entrepreneurial frameworks in both North America and South Asia. A native of Assam, he has firmly established himself in the field of Mass Communications, holding a Ph.D. from Texas Tech University, USA.

Borua’s filmography spans fictional features and documentaries, including several critically acclaimed works such as Angst at Large, If God Be With Us, All Those Longings, Center Mass, Hope is a Good Thing, Beleaguered, Grief on a Sunday Morning, The Curiosity Shop, Colorful, and Save The Himalayas. These films have contributed meaningfully to cinematic discourse, particularly in the Himalayan region, including Northeast India, addressing themes that resonate deeply with diverse audiences. His creative endeavors reflect a blend of academic insight and a profound understanding of the art of storytelling.

His latest venture, BLUE OCEAN, is a gripping crime thriller set in Dehradun at the foothills of the majestic Himalayas. The narrative delves into crime, greed, deception, and betrayal. At its core lies “Blue Ocean,” a gym that becomes a microcosm of truth and falsehood, inhabited by individuals grappling with moral complexities as they navigate life in the first quarter of the 21st century. The film also weaves in urgent concerns of climate change and the environmental consequences of unchecked human intervention in the Himalayan region—an important subtext underlying the story.

As with his earlier works, Borua selects his locations with the precision of a storyteller and the instinct of a traveler. The film features some of the most captivating and emotionally charged songs by Shellee, who also co-produces the project with Borua. With its intricate blend of mystery and psychological depth, BLUE OCEAN is poised to captivate audiences.

The film’s Executive Producers are Somdeep Mishra and Raaj Mansata. The Directors of Photography are Vinayak Jinde and Jeet Jadhav. Editing is done by Jiten Borah, marking a decade of creative collaboration with Borua.
