Guwahati: The upcoming court complex at Amingaon is poised to play a crucial role in strengthening the judicial infrastructure of the Guwahati metropolitan region, bringing major administrative and legal functions closer to North Guwahati and adjoining areas. Designed as a modern judicial hub, the complex is expected to accommodate multiple courtrooms, judicial offices, and essential service facilities under one integrated campus, thereby easing pressure on existing courts and improving access to justice.

Strategically located to serve the rapidly expanding administrative and residential belt, the new complex is anticipated to reduce case burden, enhance efficiency in judicial processes, and benefit litigants, advocates, and court officials. Authorities highlight that the infrastructure will include upgraded courtroom technology, dedicated advocate chambers, litigant support services, enhanced security arrangements, and better waiting and utility spaces to ensure smoother functioning.

However, even as the development is being widely welcomed, the Bar fraternity has flagged several areas of concern. Lawyers and Bar Association members have voiced apprehensions regarding the readiness of support infrastructure, including adequate seating for advocates and litigants, sufficient parking facilities, accessibility for senior citizens and differently-abled persons, availability of legal records and document management systems, and provision of essential amenities such as drinking water, sanitation, and internet connectivity. They have also emphasized the need for well-defined administrative coordination, availability of public transport, and clarity on case transfers to ensure that litigants do not face inconvenience during the transition.

Travel connectivity, once considered a major challenge for those commuting from Guwahati city to Amingaon, is expected to improve significantly with the nearing completion of the new Guwahati–North Guwahati (Amingaon) bridge, which is set to become operational soon. The six-lane bridge is expected to drastically reduce travel time, ease congestion on existing crossings, and ensure faster movement between the city and the court complex, providing relief to advocates and litigants alike.

Residents and legal practitioners have expressed cautious optimism welcoming the promise of a modern judicial facility while urging authorities to address practical concerns to ensure that the new complex delivers on its objective of improved accessibility and efficient justice delivery.

Once fully functional, the Amingaon court complex is expected to emerge as a significant pillar of the region’s governance and judicial framework, symbolizing both infrastructural progress and evolving civic administration in Assam.
