The Election Commission of India has announced a Special Revision of electoral rolls in Assam ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. Since the updated National Register of Citizens (NRC) remains under the supervision of the Supreme Court, the State has been exempted from the nationwide Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
Under this Special Revision, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will carry out house-to-house verification from November 22 to December 20, using pre-filled registers of existing voters. No fresh application forms will be required. The status of D-voters will remain unchanged unless altered by an order of a Foreigners Tribunal or a competent court. BLOs will also list un-enrolled eligible citizens and prospective voters aged 17 and above.
The Commission has instructed officials to assign notional house numbers wherever necessary and update blurred or low-quality photographs in the electoral roll. The qualifying date for the revision is January 1, 2026. The draft roll will be published on December 27, 2025, and the final roll on February 10, 2026.
