The Maha Kumbh 2025, held from January 13 to February 26 in Prayagraj, concluded on Wednesday with the holy occasion of Maha Shivratri. This edition of the world’s largest religious congregation witnessed a historic turnout of over 66 crore devotees, reaffirming India’s rich spiritual heritage and its profound tradition of collective faith.
Throughout the month-long celebration, millions of pilgrims took the holy dip at the Triveni Sangam—the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati—on major bathing days such as Makar Sankranti (January 14), Mauni Amavasya (January 29), Basant Panchami (February 3), Maghi Purnima (February 12) and Maha Shivratri (February 26). Notably, 1.4 crore devotees participated in the sacred bath on the eve of Maha Shivratri alone.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the event as a “Maha Yagya of Unity,” highlighting its significance in safeguarding India’s cultural and spiritual legacy. With stringent security and traffic restrictions, Prayagraj was converted into a no-vehicle zone for smooth movement of pilgrims. The Prime Minister credited the seamless execution of the mega event to the tireless efforts of the organizers, volunteers, and devotees.
