Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, revealed on Saturday that the inauguration of the Maligaon flyover is scheduled for August 28. This development comes as a welcome relief to the residents of Guwahati, who have been grappling with significant traffic congestion due to the prolonged construction of the flyover. The Chief Minister had previously stated that the flyover would be accessible to the public prior to Durga Puja. However, during an event held today at the Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati, Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a new inauguration date of August 28 for the flyover.

The forthcoming flyover, spanning approximately 2.5 kilometers, will originate near the existing Railway flyover at Maligaon, starting from the Jalukbari end. Its trajectory will traverse over Maligaon Chariali and the Kamakhya Temple gate, culminating at the AT Road that leads towards Bharalumukh. This four-lane marvel is poised to greatly alleviate the traffic woes of the region. Adding to its magnificence, an extended two-lane segment will extend towards Pandu Ghat, spanning an additional 500 meters.

Upon completion, commuters will be able to use this extended arm not only for smoother transit but also to reach the revered Kamakhya Temple situated atop the Nilachal Hill. This two-lane extension will also seamlessly connect with a new road currently under construction, facilitating access from Pandu to the temple premises. The ambitious project, valued at Rs 420.75 crore, was initially embarked upon in 2020 and is now approaching its highly anticipated inauguration.
