Guwahati : Assam Transport department requested All Assam Motor Transport Association to call off the strike by issuing a letter addressed to the Secretary of AAMTA on Saturday . Transport Department’s letter also informed that in order to discuss the various issues of AAMTA, Transport Minister has convened a meeting with them on the 6th of October at Administrative staff College, Khanapara.

On Friday, The All Assam Motor Transport Association (AAMTA) had called for an indefinite ‘Chakka Bandh’ from Monday demanding for a hike in bus fares.

The AATMA on Friday said that they have been forced to take this decision in view of the losses incurred by them due to the lockdown in view of Covid-19 pandemic.

AAMTA further alleged that the government has increased the prices of petrol and diesel, however, it has turned a blind eye to the demands of the association to increase bus fare. The government has ordered to carry 50 per cent passengers . With increase in fuel prices , the transport operators are incurring huge losses.
