Imphal, Sept 27, 2020: The state government today allotted portfolios
to the newly inducted five ministers- Sorokhaibam Rajen Singh,
Vungzagin Valte and Thokchom Satyabrata Singh of BJP and two former
Congress MLAs who recently resigned as legislative members and joined
the BJP- Oinam Lukhoi Singh and Okram Henry.
This came a day after the government gave their respective office
chambers at the old and new Manipur secretariats in Imphal city.
On September 24, chief minister N Biren Singh reshuffled his council
of ministers with dropping six ministers and inducted the five new
faces.
A notification issued by chief secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar said that
Biren Singh will hold home, planning, revenue and any other
departments that are not allocated specifically.
Rajen,, who won from Lamsang constituency in Imphal West, has been
given education, fisheries and Command Area Development Authority
(CADA), while Valte, representing Thanlon constituency in Pherzawl
district got tribal affairs and hills, transport and General
Administration Department (GAD).
While Lukhoi, who represents Wangoi constituency in Imphal West has
been given agriculture, veterinary and animal husbandry and tourism,
Henry of Wangkhei constituency in Imphal East, has been allotted
social welfare, cooperation and Municipal Administration, Housing and
Urban Development (MAHUD).
Satyabrata, representing Yaiskul constituency in Imphal West, has been
given Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (CAF&PD), law and
legislative affairs, labour and employment.
Henry, is the nephew of Opposition leader and former chief minister
Okram Ibobi Singh.
He and Lukhoi were among six Congress legislatures who resigned as
legislative members and Congress primary members during the political
crisis triggered recently
Five of them joined BJP at New Delhi in the presence of the party’s
national leaders and Biren.
