GUWAHATI: The Assam government on Thursday, on 24th September, launched “Arundhati Gold Scheme’, a scheme to provide cash value of ‘tola’ (nearly 10 gm) of gold to newly wed brides from economically backward families. The objective of the scheme is to facilitate the economically weaker parents of the girl child to fulfill their desire to give some gold to their daughters as a gift at the time of marriage which is considered auspicious.
The brides availing the benefits of the Arundhati scheme should have solemnized their marriages on or after 1st December, 2019 and registered under the Special Marriage Act 1954 on or after January 1st, 2020, are eligible for this one time grant. Altogether 1,121 couples registered for the scheme out of which 587 were found eligible.
Assam Chief Mnister Sarbananda Sonowal, inaugurated the ceremonial distribution of financial assistance to beneficiaries under Arundhati Gold Scheme at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati. Finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, ceremonially distributed Rs 40,000 to each of the assembled new brides at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati.
