SHILLONG: Meghalaya Cabinet on Thursday decided to legalise wine-making in the State by approving the proposal to formulate rules on the introduction of the manufacture and sale of home made fruit wines.
Meghalaya Association of Wine Makers had been demanding for legalising winemaking in the state for the past 18 years. Taking to journalists chief minister Conrad Sangma said that the state government took the decision to legalise the winemaking industry as it will encourage the farmers to grow more fruits in the state thereby promoting horticulture and tourism which will lead to generating additional revenue for the state.
